[Bhaddā:]
"Blazing with beauty, glorious and of great renown,
in beauty you outshine all the devas of Tāvatiṃsa.
I do not recall ever seeing you — this is the first sight.
From which company [of devas] have you come, that you address me by name?"
[Subhaddā:]
"I, O Bhaddā, was Subhaddā; formerly, in human existence,
I was your fellow-wife, and your younger sister.
At the breakup of the body I was released; passing away from there,
I have arisen in the companionship of the Nimmānaratī devas."
[Bhaddā:]
"Beings who have done abundant good go to those devas
among whom, Subhaddā, you shall proclaim your own birth.
How, and for what reason, or by whom instructed —
through what manner of giving, what virtuous observance, O renowned one —
have you attained
