Adorned, finely clothed, garlanded, anointed with sandalwood,
covered over with every ornament, attended by a troop of maidservants,
taking food and drink, hard food and soft food in no small measure,
I went out from the house and betook myself to the pleasure garden.
Having delighted and played there, while returning to my own home
I saw a monastery; I entered the Añjana Wood at Sāketa.
Having seen the Light of the World (lokapajjota), I paid homage and sat down;
out of compassion the One with Vision (cakkhumā) taught me the Dhamma.
And when I had heard the Great Seer (mahesi), I penetrated the truth;
right there I touched the stainless Dhamma, the deathless state (amataṃ padaṃ).
Then, having come to know the true Dhamma (saddhamma), I went forth into homelessness;
the three true knowledges (tisso vijjā) have been attained; not in vain is the Buddha's teaching.
