[1238] The dry and hollow tree, a tree bereft of leaves and fruit — abandoning it, the birds depart. What fault do you conceive, O bird (dija)? #1 Sī., M. read: "suvassa ca varaṃ datvā" ("and having granted the parrot a boon"); so too in what follows. #2 M. reads: "haripattā." #3 M. reads: "metti." #4 M. reads: "passase" ("do you see").
