[1388] "Far off and remote it is — never here, at any time, has there been in this family what is called a succession [of husbands]. Conforming to that family custom, [I resolved,] 'Let me not become the last of this family, the one who brings it to disgrace.' Loathing such talk, though unwilling, I wait upon you."
