Pānīyajātaka

[1546] Those people who were the first among us, to whom spirits (surā) and fermented liquor (meraya) were sweet as honey, took up the drinking of intoxicants (majja), to the ruin of many. To them I gave my consent; because of that I afterwards felt revulsion: that evil was done by me. "May I not do evil again!" — therefore I have gone forth.
