[1907] Those matted-hair ascetics (jaṭilā) clad in rough hides (kharājina), their teeth caked with grime, unsightly in appearance, who mutter mantras (manta) — can it be that they, within human endeavor, knowing this, stand wholly released from the states of loss (apāya)?
