[1952] Formerly I was filled with desire for a hen-pigeon; in that place we two took our delight together. Then a fowler seized the hen-pigeon, and against my will I was left without her. Because of our separation, through being parted from her, I feel a feeling (vedanā) born of the mind; therefore I keep the Uposatha, that lust (rāga) may not come to me again.
