[1958] "Scorning my own dwelling, through excessive desire (atricchatā) I went to Malata; then the people, coming out from the village, beat me all over with bow-staves. With my head broken, my limbs smeared with blood, I came back to my own dwelling; therefore I keep the Uposatha observance (uposatha), that excessive desire may never come again."
