[1963] "Seeing that for seven years you pursued me, enduring hunger and thirst by night and by day, why then, now that I am brought under the power of the snare, do you wish to release me from the bond? Have you today abstained from the destruction of life (pāṇātipāta)? Or have you granted safety (abhaya) to all beings, that you should wish to release me from the bond, I who am brought under the power of the snare?"
