[1995] The young deva (devaputta) Mātali, the charioteer of the devas, one of great power,
invited the king, the Vedeha, ruler of Mithilā:
"Come, mount this chariot, O supreme king, lord of the directions!
The devas of the Thirty-three (Tāvatiṃsa), together with Inda, long for the sight of you;
for the devas, remembering you, sit assembled in the Sudhammā hall."
And then King Sādhina, the Vedeha, ruler of Mithilā,
ascended the thousand-yoked [chariot] and went into the presence of the devas.
(Standing upon the divine carriage drawn by steeds, yoked with a thousand,
the great king, as he journeyed along, beheld this assembly hall of the devas.)
Seeing the king arrived, the devas welcomed him with delight:
"Welcome to you, great king! And your coming is not unwelcome.
Sit now, royal sage (rājisi), in the presence of the king of the devas."
Sakka too welcomed the Vedeha, ruler of Mithilā,
and Vāsava invited him with pleasures and with a seat:
"It is good indeed that you have arrived at the abode of those who wield power.
Dwell, royal sage, among the devas who abound in all pleasures;
among the devas of the Thirty-three, enjoy pleasures not of human kind."
