[2352] We have entered upon kingship and sovereignty, Sucīrata;
I wish to attain greatness, to conquer this earth —
by righteousness (dhamma), not by unrighteousness (adhamma); unrighteousness does not please me.
The practice of righteousness, Sucīrata, is the very duty of a king.
That whereby we would be blameless here, and whereby blameless hereafter,
and whereby we may attain fame among gods and humans, O brahmin —
I who wish to practise both the good (attha) and righteousness, O brahmin,
that good and that righteousness, brahmin, declare to me, now that you are asked.
