For having cast filth upon Kisa Vaccha, Daṇḍakī,
cut off at the root together with his people and his realm,
is roasted in the hell (niraya) named Kukkūla,
and sparks of fire fall upon his body.
He who harassed those gone forth (pabbajita), the restrained —
ascetics (samaṇa) who spoke the Dhamma and did no wrong —
that Nālikīra, in the world beyond,
dogs gather round and devour as he writhes.
Then Ajjuna fell into the Sattisūla hell,
head downward, feet upraised,
for having harassed Aṅgīrasa Gotama —
the patient (khanti), austere (tapassī) one, who long had lived the holy life (cirabrahmacārī).
He who cut to pieces one gone forth —
an ascetic who professed patience, who did no wrong —
Kalābu, having arisen in Avīci, is roasted
in that great burning heat, bitter and terrifying.
Having heard of these hells, and of others
here still more evil than these, a wise man
should practice the Dhamma toward ascetics and brahmins (brāhmaṇa);
one who acts thus goes to heaven (sagga), that state.
