[2516] Even the sensual pleasures (kāmā) of human beings I have seen
to be impermanent, subject to change;
having seen the danger in the strands of sensual pleasure (kāmaguṇa),
I have gone forth out of faith (saddhā), O king.

Just like the fruits of a tree, mortals fall,
young and old alike, at the breaking up of the body;
having seen this too, I have gone forth, O king:
the ascetic life (sāmañña), which is unfailing (apaṇṇaka), is indeed better.
