[320] "Household life is not for one who does not exert himself;
household life is not for one who does not speak falsehood;
household life is not for one who does not wield the rod,
who does not deceive others.
Who, then, would take up household life,
thus full of flaws and so hard to bring to success?⁵"
The Vacchanakha Jātaka, the Fifth.
