[897] * He is kindly in speech, yet in mind he may be an impenetrable fastness; concealed, his lair a hole, like a black snake, is he who bears the Dhamma as his banner (dhammaddhaja); esteemed as good in villages and towns, this one is hard to know #1 M.: bhaddaṃ vo. 2 M., Yu.: potañca. * Sī., M. read thus: # Vācāya sakhilo manoviduggo, # channo kupassayova kaṇhasappo, # dhammaddhajo gāmanigamāsu sādhu, # dujjāno purisena bālisena. for a foolish man. *
