[1059] "Food and drink he should give, and clothing and lodging — this indeed is a fitting gift; this indeed is worthy of brahmins. This hereditary king of your line, the sustainer of the realm of us Sivis — how is it, Sañjaya, that your son Vessantara gives away the elephant? If you will not carry out this word of the Sivis, methinks they will put you, together with your son, into the hands of the Sivis."
