"I have no desire, no resolve,
to govern the kingdom;
sons of Ceta, hear me,
one banished from the realm.
Displeased would the Sivis be —
the massed troops and the townsfolk —
that the Cetas had consecrated in kingship
one banished from the realm.
For you too there would be utter discord
on my account;
and quarrel and contention with the Sivis
do not please me.
Then there would be dreadful quarrel,
and no small clash of arms;
on account of me alone
many people would do one another harm.
What has been given is accepted;
honor has been paid in every respect.
The king has banished me:
I go to Mount Vaṅka.
Know well a place in the forest
where we may dwell."
