[1135] Who knows the royal prince, the bull among men, victorious, unvanquished,
the giver of security in time of peril — who knows Vessantara for me?
He who was a foundation for supplicants, as the earth is for living beings —
who knows Vessantara for me, the great king who is like unto the earth?
He who was the resort of supplicants, as the ocean is of the flowing rivers —
who knows Vessantara for me, the great king who is like unto the ocean?
With lovely fords, good to drink from, with cool and delightful water,
covered over with white lotuses (puṇḍarīka), laden with filaments and pollen —
who knows Vessantara for me, the great king who is like unto a lake?
Like a sacred fig tree (assattha) grown by the wayside, with cool shade, delightful,
a giver of rest to the weary, a receiver of the exhausted —
who knows Vessantara for me, the great king who is like unto that?
Like a banyan tree (nigrodha) grown by the wayside, with cool shade, delightful,
a giver of rest to the weary, a receiver of the exhausted —
who knows Vessantara for me, the great king who is like unto that?
Like a mango tree grown by the wayside, with cool shade, delightful,
a giver of rest to the weary, a receiver of the exhausted —
who knows Vessantara for me, the great king who is like unto that?
Like a sāla tree grown by the wayside, with cool shade, delightful,
a giver of rest to the weary, a receiver of the exhausted —

And as I lament thus, having entered into the great forest,
whoever should say, "I know" — he would beget joy in me.
And as I lament thus, having entered into the great forest,
whoever should say, "I know the dwelling-place of Vessantara" —
by that single utterance he would beget merit that is not small.
