[1183] Having heard their lamentation, three beasts of prey in the forest —
a lion, a tiger, and a leopard — spoke these words:
"Let not our princess return from her gleaning in the evening,
and let no wild beasts in the forest do her harm in this our domain.
Should a lion do her harm — should a tiger or a leopard harm the lady graced with auspicious marks —
there would be no Prince Jāli; whence then could Kaṇhājinā be?
The lady graced with auspicious marks would be bereft of both alike — of husband and of children."
