Here are those rose-apple (jambu) trees,
the vedisas and the sindhuvāras —
trees of many kinds;
but those children are not to be seen.
And here are the assattha (pipal) trees and the jackfruits,
the banyans and the wood-apples (kapitthana) —
fruits of many kinds;
but those children are not to be seen.
These stand here in the grove,
and this is the river of cool water
where once they used to play;
but those children are not to be seen.
Flowers of many kinds
are up here upon this mountain,
which once they used to wear;
but those children are not to be seen.

Here are those little elephants and horses,
and these oxen of ours,
