[1261] His head bathed, clad in clean garments, adorned with every ornament,
having mounted the elephant Paccaya, he girded on his sword, the scorcher of foes.

Then sixty thousand warriors, fair to behold,
born on the same day as he, surrounded him,¹ gladdening that bull among charioteers.
Then the women of Sivi, gathered together, bathed Maddī as well, (with the blessing:)
"May Vessantara protect you, and may Jālī and Kaṇhājinā both;
and may the great king Sañjaya, too, watch over you."
