[1263] "Formerly I took but one meal a day,
and ever I lay upon the bare ground:
such was this vow (vata) of mine —
out of longing for you, dear children.
That vow of mine is fulfilled today,
now that I am reunited with you, dear children.
May that which comes of your mother protect you,
and that which comes of your father too, dear children;
and moreover, may the great king Sañjaya
watch over you.
Whatever merit (puñña) there is that has been done,
both by me and by your father —
by all that wholesome (kusala) deed,
may you be unaging and undying."
