[136] Such is this service of yours, sir — a service by no means small:
when the heavens poured down rain, you, sir, made a shelter where no rain fell;
then, in fierce wind and scorching heat, you, sir, made cool shade;
then, in the midst of enemies, you, sir, made a defense against arrows;
then you, sir, brought those prosperous kingdoms under my sway;
then you, sir, made the one hundred and one khattiyas my followers.
We are well pleased with you, sir: choose whatever you wish to enjoy —
an elephant carriage, a horse-drawn chariot, and women adorned,
and delightful dwellings — these, sir, we give you.
Or else, sir, we give you Aṅga or Magadha;
or, glad at heart, we give you Assaka together with Avanti;
or even half of the kingdom, sir, we give you.
If you have need of the kingdom, then rule it — as you desire.
