[160] Like the tender shoot of an assattha tree stirred by the breeze,
my heart trembles now that I have seen Nanda after so long.
When, even asleep, I see in my sleep that Nanda has come,
I am elated and glad at heart: "Our Nanda has come — he is here!"
But when I awaken and see that Nanda has not come,
sorrow (soka) enters me all the more, and grief (domanassa) that is no small thing.
Today, after ever so long, I see that Nanda has come:
dear to my husband and to me, Nanda has entered our house.
To his father, too, Nanda is exceedingly dear. That Nanda should not dwell away from home —
let Nanda obtain that, dear son; let Nanda attend upon me.
