[189] Great king, even when such calamity had befallen, there was safety,
and this man did not in any way behave toward us as an enemy would.
The hunter drew near and was the first to speak;
then it was Sumukha here, the wise one, who spoke in reply.
Hearing those words of his, this man was won to confidence;
thereupon he released me from the snare and gave me leave to depart at my ease.
And this very coming into your honour's presence was devised by Sumukha himself to this end,
in his desire to win wealth for this man.
