[375] Truly, O lord of the people (janinda), one such as you would not, thinking "this is dear to me," cast his own self aside and pursue the things held dear. The self alone is better — supremely better indeed; for one whose self has been cultivated (ocitattena) may gain the things held dear afterwards.
