[517] That deity vanished from Mount Gandhamādana
and, out of compassion for Sāma, spoke this truth (sacca):
"Long have I dwelt upon Mount Gandhamādana;
no one else exists who is dearer to me than Sāma.
By this declaration of truth (saccavajja),
may the poison in Sāma be destroyed.
All the forests on Mount Gandhamādana are made of fragrance.
By this declaration of truth,
may the poison in Sāma be destroyed."
While they were lamenting greatly, with words laden with pity,
Sāma quickly rose up — a youth fair to behold.
