[525] It is a marvel indeed that discerning ones arise in the world — as when there was King Nimi, wise, a seeker of the wholesome: the king of all the Videhans, the tamer of foes, gave gifts (dāna). And as he was giving that gift, a thought arose in him: "Giving, or the holy life (brahmacariya) — which indeed is of great fruit?"
