[530] To the north is the river Sīdā, deep and hard to cross;
the golden mountains, the colour of a fire of reeds, shine always.
Full-grown are the clumps of tagara; full-grown the thickets of the wooded mountains;
there in former times dwelt ten thousand ancient seers (isi).
I am foremost in giving (dāna), in restraint (saññama), and in self-control (dama);
[I attended upon] those of concentrated mind who, having fulfilled the unsurpassed observance (vata), fared solitary, having dispersed from the company.
Be he well-born or of no birth, the man who walks upright
I shall revere beyond measure; for mortals are kinsmen of their deeds (kamma).
All castes (vaṇṇa) that stand in unrighteousness (adhamma) fall down into hell (niraya);
all castes are purified by practicing the supreme Dhamma.
