[572] Asked by him, Mātali the deva-charioteer explained;
knowing, he declared to one who knew not
the result (vipāka) of meritorious deeds (puññakamma):
"If you have heard of Biraṇī in the world of the living—
she was a home-born slave-woman of a brahmin.
She, recognizing a guest come at the due time,
welcomed him once gladly, as a mother her son.
Through restraint and through sharing,
she rejoices in a celestial mansion (vimāna)."
