[572] Asked by him, Mātali the deva-charioteer explained; knowing, he declared to one who knew not the result (vipāka) of meritorious deeds (puññakamma): "If you have heard of Biraṇī in the world of the living— she was a home-born slave-woman of a brahmin. She, recognizing a guest come at the due time, welcomed him once gladly, as a mother her son. Through restraint and through sharing, she rejoices in a celestial mansion (vimāna)."
