[611] "I was keeper of the royal bedchamber in the palace of King Sivi (Sivirāja); and there that righteous king set free from their bonds those who were bound. I had one companion, a myna (sāḷikā) of sweet speech; there a hawk slew her before my eyes, as I looked on from my fine cage. Maddened by longing for her, I have come into your presence; if you would grant the opportunity, we two shall dwell together."
