[686] The ladies of the harem and the princes, the merchants and the brahmins (brāhmaṇā),
brought abundant food and drink to the sage (paṇḍita).
The elephant riders, the guardsmen, the charioteers, and the foot soldiers
brought abundant food and drink to the sage.
The country folk came together, and the townsfolk came together;
they brought abundant food and drink to the sage.
The great multitude, seeing that the sage had come, was filled with joyful confidence;
and when the sage had arrived, the waving of cloths (celukkhepa) went round.
