[732] Like a hen-bird whose young have been slain,
who sees her nest empty,
long shall I burn with suffering (dukkha),
not seeing Bhūridatta.
Like a she-osprey whose chicks have been slain,
who sees her nest empty,
long shall I burn with suffering,
not seeing Bhūridatta.
Surely, like a cakkavāka hen
in a pool that has no water,
long shall I burn with suffering,
not seeing Bhūridatta.
As the smiths' furnace
burns within and not without,
so do I burn with sorrow (soka),
not seeing Bhūridatta.
