Whose drums and tabors, whose conches, paṇava-drums and kettledrums, marching in front, gladden the bull among charioteers?
Who is he with the broad band of gold, hued like the lightning — a youth girt with his quiver — who comes blazing with splendor?
His face shines in its loveliness, as if burnished at the mouth of the furnace, glowing like embers of acacia (khadira) wood — who comes blazing with splendor?
Whose is the parasol of jambonada gold, delightful with its ribs, a screen against the rays of the sun — who comes blazing with splendor?
For whom is the supreme yak-tail whisk taken up and [waved] on either side, over and over above the head of one of excellent wisdom?
Whose fans of peacock plumes, variegated and soft, with shafts of gold and gems, play to and fro on either side of his face?
Whose are these graceful earrings, glowing with the color of acacia embers, burnished at the mouth of the furnace, that shine on either side of his face?
Whose soft, glossy-tipped black [tresses], stirred by the breeze, adorn the edge of his brow, like lightning streaking up in the sky?
Whose are these eyes, so long and so wide? Who is he that shines large-eyed? Whose is this full and radiant countenance?
Whose are these teeth, grown in his mouth, pure, comparable to the finest conch, that gleam like kuppila blossoms as he speaks?
Whose hands and feet, hued like the juice of lac, rest at ease? Who is he, endowed with lips like the bimba fruit, who shines like the sun by day?
Like a mighty sāl tree in full flower on Himavant when the snows have passed, who is he in his white mantle, shining like Inda in victory?
Who is he that, entering deep into the assembly, ungirds from his shoulder the sword strewn with golden studs, its hilt ornate with gems?
Who is he that, having paid homage to the great seer, takes off from his feet [his slippers] wrought of gold, ornate, well-made, with ornamental stitching?
