[945] "Some indeed are home-born slaves (āmāyadāsā), born of slave mothers;
some are slaves bought with wealth;
some go into slavery of their own accord;
and some become slaves driven by fear:
these are just the four kinds of slaves among men.
Assuredly, I too was born [a slave] from the very womb.
Whether it be the king's gain or the king's loss,
even if I go elsewhere I am still the slave of His Majesty (deva);
rightfully, young man (māṇava), may he give me to you."
