[124] **Having abandoned the former, they rely upon the latter** (*purimaṃ pahāya aparaṃ sitāse*): having abandoned the former teacher, they rely upon a later teacher; having abandoned the former teaching of the Dhamma (dhammakkhāna), they rely upon a later teaching of the Dhamma; having abandoned the former group, they rely upon a later group; having abandoned the former view (diṭṭhi), they rely upon a later view; having abandoned the former practice (paṭipadā), they rely upon a later practice; having abandoned the former path, they rely upon a later path — upon that they are dependent, thoroughly dependent, attached, resorted to it, cleaving to it, resolved upon it. Therefore it is said, "having abandoned the former, they rely upon the latter."
