[141] **"They form no hope for anything anywhere in the world" (āsaṃ na kubbanti kuhiñci loke):** Hope (āsā) is a term for craving (taṇhā); that is, lust, passion … covetousness, greed, the unwholesome root. **"They form no hope":** they do not make hope, do not generate it, do not engender it, do not produce it, do not bring it forth. **"Anywhere" (kuhiñci):** anywhere, in anything, in any place whatsoever — internally, or externally, or both internally and externally. **"In the world" (loke):** in the world of the states of loss … in the world of the sense bases (āyatana). Hence, "they form no hope for anything anywhere in the world." Therefore the Blessed One said:
They do not formulate, they do not give preference;
they do not say, "This is absolute purity."
Having let go of the knot of grasping by which they were bound,
they form no hope for anything anywhere in the world.
