[225] **"Of one devoted to sexual intercourse (methunamanuyuttassa)":** what is called sexual intercourse (methunadhamma) is that unrighteous practice (asaddhamma), the practice of villagers (gāmadhamma), the practice of the low (vasaladhamma), lewd, ending in water for washing, done in secret, the coming together of a pair. For what reason is it called sexual intercourse? Because it is the practice of two who are lustful, deeply lustful, oozing with lust, obsessed, whose minds (citta) are overwhelmed — the practice of two who are alike: for that reason it is called sexual intercourse. Just as two who make a quarrel are called "a pair"; two who make strife are called "a pair"; two who make contentious talk are called "a pair"; two who make a dispute are called "a pair"; two who create a legal issue (adhikaraṇa) are called "a pair"; two disputants are called "a pair"; two conversing together are called "a pair" — even so, because it is the practice of two who are lustful, deeply lustful, oozing with lust, obsessed, whose minds are overwhelmed, the practice of two who are alike: for that reason it is called sexual intercourse. **"Of one devoted to sexual intercourse":** of one who is engaged in sexual intercourse, occupied with it, applied to it, fully applied to it; who practices it, abounds in it, gives it weight; who slants toward it, slopes toward it, inclines toward it, is intent upon it, has it as his dominant influence (adhipateyya) — this is "of one devoted to sexual intercourse."
