[234] **"This is ignoble in him"** (etaṃ tasmiṃ anāriyaṃ): this — namely, the wrong way of practice — is, in that person, an ignoble dhamma, a dhamma of a fool, a dhamma of one deluded, a dhamma of one without knowledge (ñāṇa), a dhamma of endless equivocation (amarāvikkhepa); hence, "this is ignoble in him." Therefore the Blessed One said:
For one devoted to sexual intercourse (methuna) — ("Metteyya," said the Blessed One) —
the teaching is even forgotten,
and he practises wrongly:
this is ignoble in him.
