[282] **"He is angered by blame, a seeker of faults (randhamesī)"** — **"By blame" (nindāya)**: by blame, by censure, by disrepute, by the spreading of dispraise. **"Is angered" (kuppati)**: he is angered, becomes ill-disposed, becomes obstinate; he manifests anger, hatred, and displeasure — thus, "he is angered by blame." **"A seeker of faults"**: he is a seeker of faults, a seeker of failings, a seeker of lapses, a seeker of stumbles, a seeker of slips, a seeker of openings — thus, "he is angered by blame, a seeker of faults."
Therefore the Blessed One said:
> Engaged in debate in the midst of an assembly,
> desiring praise, he becomes distressed;
> but when his argument is struck down, he is abashed;
> he is angered by blame, a seeker of faults.
