[349] **And from this you have not seen even a trifling perception (saññā):** From this — that is, from inner peace, or from the practice, or from the teaching of the Dhamma — you do not obtain a fitting perception, or an attained perception, or a perception of the characteristic, or a perception of the reason, or a perception of the ground; whence, then, knowledge (ñāṇa)? Thus too, "and from this you have not seen even a trifling perception."
Or else: you do not obtain the impermanent, or what conforms to the perception of impermanence; or the suffering (dukkha), or what conforms to the perception of suffering; or the non-self (anattā), or what conforms to the perception of non-self; or the mere arising of perception, or a sign (nimitta) of perception; whence, then, knowledge? Thus too, "and from this you have not seen even a trifling perception."
