[449] **"Quarrels and disputes bound up with avarice"** (macchariya): quarrel, dispute, lamentation, sorrow, conceit (māna), excessive conceit (atimāna), and divisive speech (pesuñña) — these seven defilements (kilesa) are bound up, applied, connected, and thoroughly conjoined with avarice; therefore, "quarrels and disputes bound up with avarice."
