[473] **These dhammas too, only when the pair exists** (etepi dhammā dvayameva sante): when the agreeable and the disagreeable (sātāsāta) exist, when pleasure and pain (sukha-dukkha) exist, when joy and grief (somanassa-domanassa) exist, when the desirable and the undesirable (iṭṭhāniṭṭha) exist, when attraction and repulsion (anunaya-paṭigha) exist — that is, when they are present [1], when they are found — thus: "These dhammas too, only when the pair exists."
