[550] **Truth indeed is one; there is no second** — one truth is spoken of: the cessation of suffering (dukkha), Nibbāna — that which is the stilling of all formations, the relinquishment of all acquisitions (upadhi), the destruction of craving (taṇhā), dispassion (virāga), cessation, Nibbāna. Or alternatively, one truth is spoken of: the truth of the path (magga), the truth of emancipation (niyyāna) — the way of practice leading to the cessation of suffering, the noble eightfold path, namely: right view, right thought, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right mindfulness, right concentration. Thus, truth indeed is one; there is no second.
