[558] **Or do they recollect it by reasoning:** or do they proceed, go forth, are carried along, and are swept along by reasoning (takka), by thought (vitakka), by intention (saṅkappa)? — thus also, "or do they recollect it by reasoning." Or else, they speak, tell, utter, explain, and declare what has been hammered out by reasoning, followed through by investigation (vīmaṃsā), their own inspiration (paṭibhāṇa) — thus also, "or do they recollect it by reasoning." Therefore the mind-created one (nimmita) said:
Why indeed do they speak of truths diversely —
those disputants who claim to be skilled?
Are the truths that have been heard many and various,
or do they recollect them by reasoning?
