[68] *One who has drawn out the dart, living heedfully* (abbūḷhasallo caramappamatto): "Dart" (salla): there are seven darts — the dart of lust (rāga), the dart of hatred (dosa), the dart of delusion (moha), the dart of conceit (māna), the dart of views (diṭṭhi), the dart of sorrow (soka), and the dart of perplexity (kathaṃkathā). In whomever these darts have been abandoned, cut off, calmed, stilled, rendered incapable of arising again, burned up by the fire of knowledge (ñāṇa), he is called one who has drawn out the dart — one who has extracted the dart, pulled out the dart, pulled it right out, drawn out the dart, drawn it right out, plucked out the dart, plucked it right out; who has given up, vomited up, released, abandoned, and relinquished the dart; hungerless, quenched, become cool, experiencing happiness, he dwells with a self become divine (brahmabhūta). Thus, "one who has drawn out the dart."
"Living" (caraṃ): living, dwelling, moving about, carrying on, maintaining, keeping going, keeping oneself going.
"Heedful" (appamatto): one who acts with care, who acts continually, who acts without halting, whose conduct is unflagging, who does not lay aside desire (chanda), who does not lay aside the burden, with regard to wholesome dhammas. "How might I fulfill the aggregate of virtue (sīlakkhandha) that is unfulfilled, or assist here and there with wisdom (paññā) the aggregate of virtue that is fulfilled?" — whatever desire, effort, exertion, endeavor, non-retreat, mindfulness and clear comprehension, ardor, striving, resolution, application, and heedfulness (appamāda) there is in this regard concerning wholesome dhammas. "How might I fulfill the aggregate of concentration (samādhi) that is unfulfilled, or assist here and there with wisdom the aggregate of concentration that is fulfilled?" … concerning wholesome dhammas. "How might I fulfill the aggregate of wisdom, the aggregate of liberation (vimutti), the aggregate of knowledge and vision of liberation (vimuttiñāṇadassana) that is unfulfilled, or assist here and there with wisdom the aggregate of knowledge and vision of liberation that is fulfilled?" — whatever desire, effort, exertion, endeavor, non-retreat, mindfulness and clear comprehension, ardor, striving, resolution, application, and heedfulness there is in this regard concerning wholesome dhammas. "How might I fully understand the suffering (dukkha) not yet fully understood, abandon the defilements (kilesa) not yet abandoned, develop the path (magga) not yet developed, or realize the cessation (nirodha) not yet realized?" — whatever desire, effort, exertion, endeavor, non-retreat, mindfulness and clear comprehension, ardor, striving, resolution, application, and heedfulness there is in this regard concerning wholesome dhammas. Thus, "one who has drawn out the dart, living heedfully."
