[684] **He looks on with equanimity; while others grasp** (upekkhatī uggahaṇanti maññe): others grasp, cling to, and adhere by the power of craving (taṇhā) and by the power of views (diṭṭhi); the Arahant looks on with equanimity — he does not grasp, does not cling, does not adhere. Hence, "he looks on with equanimity, while others grasp." Therefore the Blessed One said:
The brahmin does not enter upon mental construing or reckoning;
he is no follower of views, nor is he bound up with knowledge (ñāṇa);
and having known the conventions common among ordinary people,
he looks on with equanimity, while others grasp.
