[882] **Never before have I seen [him]** — before this, that Blessed One had never been seen by me with this eye, with this individual existence (attabhāva). When the Blessed One, having completed the rains residence upon the Paṇḍukambala stone seat at the foot of the Pāricchattaka tree in the Tāvatiṃsa realm, surrounded by the host of deities, descended to the city of Saṅkassa by the central staircase made of jewels — this seeing apart, he had not been seen before. Hence, "never before have I seen [him]."
