Sāriputtasuttaniddesa 16

Suttapiṭaka · Khuddakanikāya · Mahāniddesa · Vol. 29 · Section 936

[936] **"And further, the seeker of the wholesome should overcome perils" (athāparāni abhisambhaveyyuṃ parissayāni kusalānuesī):** there are also further perils (parissaya) to be overcome, to be mastered, to be overwhelmed, to be exhausted, to be crushed. **"Perils":** there are two kinds of perils: manifest perils and concealed perils … thus too they are "perils" in the sense that they have their abode there. **"The seeker of the wholesome (kusala)":** by one seeking, searching for, questing after the right practice, the conforming practice, the unopposing practice, the practice in accordance with the goal … the noble eightfold path (magga), Nibbāna, and the practice leading to Nibbāna, the perils are to be overcome, to be mastered, to be overwhelmed, to be exhausted, to be crushed. Hence, "And further, the seeker of the wholesome should overcome perils." Therefore the Blessed One said: > One should not be terrified even of those who follow other teachings, > even having seen their many fearsome things; > and further, the seeker of the wholesome > should overcome perils.
