[948] **"One should not come under the sway of anger and contempt (kodhātimāna)":** *Anger (kodha)* — whatever is resentment of mind (citta), hostility, … ferocity, the uttering of harsh words, displeasure of mind. *Contempt (atimāna)* — here someone despises another on account of birth, or on account of clan, … or on some ground or other. **"One should not come under the sway of anger and contempt"** means: one should not come under the sway of anger and of contempt; one should abandon anger and contempt, dispel them, make an end of them, and bring them to non-existence. Therefore it is said: "One should not come under the sway of anger and contempt."
